At the end of April LinkedIn launched a new feature to their site which allows users to keep up to date with the latest activity from companies of their choice. The ‘Follow Company’ feature enables individuals to track a company to find out about the latest job openings, business opportunities and any new developments, and is an extremely handy tool for job seekers and recruiters alike.

Ryan Roslansky on the LinkedIn blog yesterday announced that over 30 million professionals are now following over 1 million companies using the service.

He also announced that the service would be getting an update, with better customisation, an updated look, personalised insights and, perhaps the biggest change; a career tab for companies and professionals.

The careers tab will enable companies to give real insight into their hiring practices, publish employee testimonials, and allow job seekers to learn more about the practices and specific details of a company’s workforce; including composition of departments, average tenure of employees and much more.

The update improves the social functioning of LinkedIn and provides real value to job seekers who can now consume a vast amount of data about companies they are contemplating a career with.
