Nokia N8 set to cause a stir at Nokia World Expo

Nokia are set to make their big comeback in the smartphone market at the Nokia World Expo in London next week with the introduction of the Nokia E7 and the Nokia N8.

The Nokia N8 is set to become Nokia’s flagship handset, replacing the N97. It is the first Nokia handset to use the Symbian^3 Open source OS. The phone will have full multi touch and pinch-zoom capabilities, faster multitasking and a 12 megapixel camera.

The phone will also include full integration of social networking, capable of aggregating updates from all of your social networks into one application, much like HTC’s Friend Stream.

Although Nokia is responsible for around 40% of the mobile handsets sold globally, they have still struggled to make a major impact on the smartphone market to date. Nokia reported significant losses in Q2; the company’s net profit dropping by 40% in the same period of 2009.

The launch of the new generation of Nokia smartphones indicates that they are in the market to do some serious land grabbing. Whether the company’s latest efforts will stand up to the market leaders has been met with doubt by the industry as Apple and Google’s success continues in leaps and bounds. Could it be too little too late for Nokia, or will Nokia’s World Expo shake up the mobile market as we know it?
