An article on the telegraph website today has announced that sales of Android handsets in the UK have tripled in the last 3 months alone.

The research, conducted by research group Gfk found that Android’s market share of the mobile phone contract market in the UK has grown from 3% to over 13% in the last 3 months.

The statistics mean that 1 in 10 of all contract phones being sold in the UK is on Android OS.

These growth stats are very interesting for the mobile market. Android devices were released months after the iPhone in 2008, and although they were a late starter, they show no signs of relenting in their bid to catch up to smartphone giant, Apple.

The mass growth increase seen may well be attributed to the wide ranging availability of Android handsets. Users can run Android OS on a number of phones from a variety of manufacturers including HTC, Motorola and Samsung. Handset availability and varied pricing structures may well be impacting on increasingly high sales figures for Android in the UK.

So watch this space, Android are a fierce competitor in the smartphone market. Are you considering Android in your mobile recruiting strategy?
